First ever Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) Training in Latvia by CiEFT: A New International Milestone for EFT

CiEFT is proud to share the successful completion of the first-ever Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) Level 1 training in Latvia, held on 26–28 February and 1 March 2026, led by Dr Christina Michael. To introduce EFT in a new country for the very first time carries not only excitement, but also a profound sense of responsibility towards the therapists we train, the communities they serve, and the future growth of EFT itself.

This was a landmark moment not only for Latvia, but also for our institute. As CiEFT continues to expand its international presence, bringing Emotion-Focused Therapy training to therapists abroad remains a central part of our mission. Our aim is to support therapists, psychologists, counsellors, and other mental health professionals in accessing high-quality psychotherapy training, meaningful continuing professional development, and deeper clinical growth through EFT.

A New Milestone for Emotion-Focused Therapy Training in Europe

The first training in Latvia brought together therapists from diverse therapeutic backgrounds who were looking to strengthen their skills, deepen their emotional work with clients, and expand their professional practice through evidence-based EFT training. Throughout the four days, participants engaged in experiential psychotherapy training, intensive skills practice, and rich clinical learning. They explored the foundations of Emotion-Focused Therapy while developing practical therapeutic competencies that can be applied directly in clinical practice.

The response to the training was exceptionally strong. We are delighted to share that 100% of the participants from the first group registered for EFT Level 2. In response to this high level of interest, a second EFT Level 1 training in Latvia was organised just two weeks later, taking place on 11–14 March 2026.

For therapists looking for professional development training, EFT certification pathways, or continuing education in psychotherapy, this kind of response speaks to the value of training that is both clinically rigorous and deeply transformative. Emotion-Focused Therapy offers therapists a powerful framework for working with emotion, attachment, trauma, self-criticism, relationship difficulties, and psychological healing in a way that is structured, experiential, and evidence-based.

These two trainings hold special significance for CiEFT. They represent not only the introduction of EFT to Latvia, but also the beginning of a growing local professional community connected to the wider European and international EFT network. Supporting the development of EFT across countries is part of our broader commitment to strengthening therapeutic practice and creating spaces where therapists can learn, grow, and connect.

These trainings were made even more meaningful by the presence of two CiEFT graduates, Dr Stephanie Stephanou and Dr Ioannis Mavrommatis, who facilitated alongside Dr Christina Michael. Seeing our graduates contribute to this important international step reflects the growth of our institute, the strength of our training community, and the meaningful role CiEFT continues to play in the development of Emotion-Focused Therapy beyond Cyprus.

For any therapist seeking Emotion-Focused Therapy training, CPD courses for psychologists and mental health practitioners, or advanced clinical training that combines theory, practice, and experiential depth, this milestone in Latvia reflects the kind of learning community and professional development CiEFT is committed to offering. This is only the beginning, and we look forward to the continued growth of EFT in Latvia, Cyprus and beyond.

Before you go.
